It’s not rocket science - but it’s close. Insitu Inc. has been building autonomous aircraft for over 20 years and in that time they have seen service in some of the harshest environments on earth. While land deployments are able to utilize gasoline for fuel, as a safety concern ship based deployments require they burn jet fuel - a diesel like fuel that is not commonly used in small, spark combustion engines. Through years of developing novel technology Insitu was able to field successful fleets of aircraft utilizing the Navy’s preferred fuel type. To this day many of the worlds Navy’s operate Insitu aircraft with this technology on board.
